Interesting day to be off, getting to listen to so many pontificate about the pending shut down, how it is all the fault of one party, how people don’t know what they are going to suffer, or not at all, how the House is acting like terrorists, how the Senate is being insensitive, how the President is wonderful or clueless…
You know what, both parties suck, they are led by idiots, and the public by in large has no clue what government is doing to rule us. It is what it is to someone like me who is a Libertarian overall. I just want to be a responsible citizen, an appropriate doctor, an invested parent, and attentive neighbor. And be left alone if I adhere to the basic principles of society. Sort of the basic Ten Commandments kind of thing, perhaps some specifics to America, but, common sense shit.
I just ended working at a clinic that really sucked me dry for a sense of hope for mental health care. I am truly sorry to write this, but, I can’t work when almost every principle I believe in as a psychiatrist is compromised, ignored, or falsely rationalized. My issue, but, offering this to people out there who are patients and, in these times, desperately looking for services and support to help them become healthy and functional, note I did NOT write or imply NORMAL (god that word is so misused), there is a lot more to care than just drugs.
Anyway, gotta love what is going on in this country. If you haven’t heard or seen it, there was this ridiculous arrest at a Baltimore County Board of Education meeting about 11-12 days ago that shows the agenda of bureaucracy: google this (“Youtube & Robert Small & Baltimore County School board meeting Sept 2013″) and you’ll find the link that shows a man fairly appropriately debating the board’s decision to change the basic curriculum structure, and don’t wince at the end when he gets thrown through the door. Sorry I am not giving a specific link, I have mixed feelings about promoting Youtube, but random chance is 1/20, so this probably is the 20th time I have watched and actually appreciated the viewing for once!
Oh, and then this gem from last week’s THE WEEK magazine: A Florida man arrested and jailed for protesting his town’s red light cameras, police arrested him for a “pedestrian violation” for handing out pamphlets calling for a public vote on the cameras. He thinks they are a scam to just raise money. That is a nice way to put it, it is extortion more often than not, plain and simple. If you really think a light is a profound risk to the public, keep a cop there as much as possible and you’ll rake in the serious violations and then add court costs to those who may end up foolishly trying to fight it.
Having once gotten a red light ticket on a 55 mile hour road with a light that had a 4 second yellow, you know it was a scam. Oh, today, that light has no camera, and the yellow light is at least 7 seconds long now. Betcha someone of importance/influence got the ticket and then bitched. Gotta love power when it actually helps people for once!
Then further in the mag you read about Michael Bloomberg finally exiting New York City. Yeah, you realize why the city had a limit on the term for Mayor, then this guy got the law altered so he could stay another term, and now he ain’t leaving with a lot of gratitude and praise from the public. Power corrupts folks, one reason why I write about it, the antisocial element just sucks it up.
And then you read about how some 2.35 billion dollars in forfeited assets from Madoff’s Ponzi scheme are still in limbo. They have the audacity to claim the GOVERNMENT APPOINTED ADMINISTRATOR is having trouble distinguishing Madoff’s victims from customers. Um, aren’t they one in the same?! And doesn’t the government want the damn money for themselves anyway. Wow, the government is handling a Ponzi scheme. What, trying to figure out new and creative ways to mismanage Social Security more??!!
Ray Dolby died recently, and I have appreciated his work in his making audio more enjoyable. They note in the article that Dolby never sought glory. What someone who is interested in promoting benefiting the public first and foremost is about.
Oh, one last one I just read in this week’s issue of the same periodical, a California college, Modesto Jr College, stopped a student from handing out copies of the US Constitution on campus, during, wait for it folks, the irony is just dripping with stool, on CONSTITUTION DAY! They claimed he needed to reserve a tiny “free speech zone” days in advance.
You want to know why people sometimes do come in for mental health care? Because this country is just f—–g crazy with examples of stupidity and just ignorance that borders on criminal. People are trying to make sense of the senseless, and it ain’t goin’ too well for ’em. And here throughout the net, you get to read the ongoing efforts by Ronald Pies et al trying to tell us that grief is very easily really Major Depression. Dr Pies, please come forward with some transparency and tell us if you have stock in the DSM5!!!
Ahhhhhhh, that was a sigh of just the ridiculousness of this existence. Hope it was worth the read. I enjoyed typing it up for ya! Enjoy the day before the world ends should the US government shut down. I hope they have fireworks before the masses up and riot. Do they have riot cams??
(jeez, that guy in front looks like me, is this foreshadowing??? Nah, I am staying home and far away from DC, I’ll leave this one to the experts!!)
