Doubt most of you know of one of my early posts, about Axis 2 disorders, but I’ll link it for those interested:
Anyway, there was a post from Shrink Rap earlier this week about, well, you can read it:
in the thread from there was this comment from yesterday, the author called “something else”;
“”Then there’s the semi-veiled hostility in some of the psychiatrist’s posts here, principally Jesse and Joel Hassman, MD.”
I don’t know so much about Jess, but there is NOTHING semi-veiled in Joel’s responses. He is very openly hostile. And I’m starting to get really offended.
“Characterological indeed. Since characterological relates to the character of individuals and the differences between them, of course its characterological.”
No Je Suis, Joel meant personality disordered and used the word characterological. In fact, it seems that everyone Joel doesn’t like, including patients who give him dirty looks, are Axis 2. These aren’t even my words. This is stuff that he has actually said on this blog in the past. Only Axis 2 people look at him with hatred on inpatient units. It is not possible that some of these people just genuinely don’t like him.
Frankly, I think if Je Suis is banned from this blog, then Joel should have been banned about 20 posts or more ago.
I was actually happy when Joel came on once and said he was done at this blog. I thought, Finally! And then he actually came back!”
The commenter, who as usual was anonymous with the cute pseudonyms that troll sites like Shrink Rap, was right about my hypocrisy in saying I was done commenting at the site, but, after reading the original post, I honestly was compelled to write something, which ironically may have played a role in one very zealot commenter being banned. Here was my comment in the thread:
“The comment section is a validation for those who get away with writing inappropriate comments that don’t get censored. I have been reading and writing at blogs for 4 years now, and sites that don’t moderate up front or respond with harsh rebuttals, well, are the feeding grounds for the antipsychiatry and plain characterological people that thrive on anonymity and plain unaccountability.
But, I think the authors here know that. It is about numbers, let’s have a moment of frank candor.
Yes, I should know better than to comment as well, but, this needs said!”
I seem to call myself on the hypocritical moment at the end there, but, those antipsychiatry folks, they just have to have the last word, you think?
It has been interesting with my blog now over a year old, I can count the comments on the fingers of both hands that have been critical but yet respectful submitted for posting on a thread. I will say this, I don’t think I have gotten a really rude and abrupt one yet, and I think the usual authors of the hostility know that since I moderate, I would probably print it as validation for what I write about the antipsychiatry crowd. And they don’t want something they submit used against them, I think.
But, since I know in my heart most who write the rude, insulting, vile, and unseemly stuff are in fact struggling with characterological issues, they won’t get it if I tried to frame it in a way that would try to empower them to stop the absolute framing they do on a daily basis with most of their life experiences. Life is never gray with these folks, and that is what Axis 2 is about, irregardless of cluster group A, B, or C. I’ll tell you, when I wrote that early post first linked above in 2012, well, the idea to use the picture of an atomic bomb turned out to be very prophetic. Cue the Glenn Close character in “Fatal Attraction” for an artistic rendition?
I will end with this, also from the Shrink Rap post above posted earlier today in the thread, and I appreciate the comment, because it is right: “something else – Although Dr. Hassman’s honestly is more brutal than suits my taste, if you look at the body of his work and his comments, you will see that he is actually fighting for the benefit of patients, and that his ire is just as strong, if not stronger, for those in his profession.”
I have been practicing over 20 years, and tired of the BS interruptions and intrusions by so many who think they know better, but yet where do you think these folks are in the proverbial room with the fan and nasty fecal matter is headed towards the blades?
Picture in the Seinfeld episode with George Costanza running from the room when someone yelled fire, how’s that for a visual?
So, I will continue to try to stay away from commenting at blog sites that don’t moderate with consistency or respect to honest and fair readers. Hey, I have done well with not writing at 1boringoldman of late, so, that’s a start, I hope.
Will this post stimulate some rebuttals? I hope that is not a “boom” I hear from afar…
it is what it is to me, folks. And I say it at my blog, your choice to read it.
addendum later tonight: Gee, on cue this from Dr John Grohol at Psychcentral blog, and you gotta admit, ironic?:
the end is just so perfect: “It’s good to know that trolls online have a personality type that fits with what most of us view them as being — sadistic, deceptive and in it for themselves. Trolls just want to have fun? Sure… but who doesn’t?”
read it and weep, oh characterological folks! But, you could equally use it for motivation for,… change and healthy function? Your call. As a commenter said it earlier above, my brutal honesty doesn’t make time for pleasantries these days, but, I am for improvement, and that is exactly what I offer.
After all, analysis can be effective, but, why do the dance?
